Modern Spent Fuel Dissolution and Chemistry in Failed Container Conditions

DISCO is a Collaborative Project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 Reasearch and Training Programme of the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM) (H2020-NFRP-2016-2017-1), section B - Contribute to the Development of Solutions for the Management of Radioactive Waste. Topic NFRP 6: Addressing key priority R&I issues for the first-of-the-kind geological repositories. Funding scheme: RIA - Research and Innovation action. Project ID: 755443.


The project started on 1st of June 2017 and will last for 48 months. The project is implemented by a consortium with 16 Beneficiaries. The consortium will be advised by a so-called End User Group (EUG), consisting of Waste Management Organisations in 7 countries (Belgium, Finland, France, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK) as well as regulatory authorities in 5 countries (Belgium, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland). The inclusion of Waste Management Organisations (WMOs) as an EUG in the project ensures that the research conducted in the proposed project will be relevant and useful for the ultimate goal of safe radioactive waste disposal.


The total budget is 4.69 million Euros. The European Commission contributes with 3.99 million Euros to the project.
